Urban Design with Soundscape in Mind

On Tuesday, May 24, 2011, a Symposium entitled "Urban Design with Soundscape in Mind" will focus on Urban Planning with the Consideration of Noise Impacts and the People Concerned.

The aim of "Urban Design with Soundscape in Mind" is to communicate with politicians, planners, architects and the public-at-large. Topics that will be addressed include: Acoustic Challenges to Urban Livability with Respect to Noise Mapping, Noise Ordinances, Noise Control, and Soundscaping. Visit www.acousticalsociety.org for more information and to register.

The symposium will have two main foci: The Historic Approach in Addressing Noise Impacts on Urban Livability and A New Approach in Addressing Noise Impacts in an Urban Setting.

The morning portion of the symposium will focus on traditional methods that land use planners have used to address noise impacts in the urban environment (zoning laws, noise regulations, building design codes and noise mapping) while the afternoon portion of the symposium will focus on the use of soundscaping methods to address noise impacts in that environment. The afternoon portion of the symposium will also include a soundscape walk.
